How To Do Your Own Wedding Makeup?

Sometimes the only person you can trust to do something right is yourself. There would be nothing worse than hiring a make-up artist who didn’t understand how you wanted to look and ended up making the whole process more stressful for you.

To prevent the chances of this, many brides prefer to rely on their own expertise and tips from others to transform themselves on their wedding day. The results can be just as impressive as when using a professional. So here is a quick guide on how to do your own wedding makeup...

Practice Makes Perfect!

It is always a good idea to practice your make-up quite a few times before the big day. This way, you can get opinions from different people about what needs to be changed, what works well and what just isn’t ‘you’.

After a practice session, leave the make-up on for a while to make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin. Also, this is a good way of getting used to wearing more make-up than usual so that you do not feel uncomfortable on the day.

Learn From The Experts

If you are not totally confident in your make-up abilities, it might be a good idea to make an appointment with a make-up artist. This could be one recommended by a friend or just at your local department store. It may be possible to find places that will do this for free so that you aren’t adding to your costs. The artist can help find colours and products that suit you and you can ask them to talk it through with you thoroughly so that it is easy to recreate yourself.

8 Fabulous DIY Wedding Makeup Tips

1. Do not pluck your eyebrows later than the day before your wedding as some redness or irritation may remain.

2. Before applying the make-up, make sure that your face is washed and moisturised to make sure the make-up ends up looking even.

3. Use concealer under the eyes to ensure no dark circles are visible.

4. When applying foundation, use a foundation brush or the tips of your fingers. Start from the centre of the face and move outwards to prevent a sharp line of colour difference around the edges of the face.

5. Apply powder after the foundation unless you are prone to dry skin.

6. For the blusher, smile and apply from the rounded part of the cheek toward the temple. You may wish to add a touch to the forehead and chin.

7. Lip liner can either be applied with a pencil or a brush. Be careful not to make the line too heavy or thick. Apply the lipstick and blend with the liner so that the colour is uniform rather than obviously outlined.

8. The last step is your eye make-up. You will probably already have a fully formed technique for this part but it is always best to go in order of eye shadow, eye liner, mascara.

Do not go overboard with the make-up, but it will need to be used a little heavier than normal. This will ensure that your flawless look translates to the photos, lasts for longer, and will make you look that little bit more stunning.
