Would you like to keep up to date with the latest posts on EasyWeddingSearch PRO for FREE?
There are 2 main ways, which you can receive updates whenever I write a new blog post so that you don’t miss out on any of the valuable content on the site, email and RSS.
1. Email Updates
This is probably the easiest way to subscribe to the site. Whenever I write a new blog post, you get sent a nice email with all the content inside. That’s right, you don’t even have to leave your inbox.
You can unsubscribe at any time and your email address will be kept private and not used for any purposes other than to send these updates.
2. RSS Feeds
The other way you can subscribe to EasyWeddingSearch PRO is via RSS.
So what the heck is RSS anyway?
RSS is being used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favourite websites. RSS technology is free, easy to use, and very convenient to me and you.
When I was a lad…
Back in my early days of surfing the web I had to use bookmarks to keep up to date with changes on a website. I would find a website I liked, add the website to my favourites and then return on a regular basis to see what had been added.
The problem with using bookmarks:
- I had to do all the work myself (by returning to the website each time)
- It got very complicated keeping track of all my bookmarks
- I missed out on information when I forgot to check my bookmarked sites
- I ended up seeing the same information on sites that didn’t get updated very often
The Solution? RSS
RSS can notify you whenever a website is updated. It is commonly used on news websites and blogs where content is added on a regular basis. I love RSS because:
- it is free to use
- it saves me a lot of time
- I can get information quickly
- I can stay up to date
RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’ (but you don’t need to know that). It is also known as a ‘news feed’ that you subscribe to.
I like the idea of describing RSS as a subscription. It’s like subscribing to a magazine but instead of the magazine being a physical product, that gets delivered to your house, the RSS subscription is delivered to your favourite RSS Reader.
How to Use RSS
It’s easy!
1. Get an RSS Reader
An RSS Reader is like a window to all your subscriptions. All your feeds get sent to your reader and you can read them at your leisure all in one place, without having to visit each and every site you subscribe to.
There are many RSS Readers out there. I use Google Reader, which is easy to use and free. Another popular one is Bloglines. I don’t have much experience with this one but I have been told it is good.
The best way to learn how to use RSS and RSS Readers is by giving it a go. Sign up to a service such as the free Google Reader and subscribe to some sites.
Note: other options to tracking websites that you might already use include sites like MyYahoo, MyGoogle and MyMSN.
2. Subscribe to a Feed
Once you have your RSS Reader, you can subscribe to a site. Not all sites allow you to subscribe to content but there are thousands that do, such as the BBC News website or my EasyWeddingSearch PRO blog.
How do you know if a site has an RSS feed?
- Look for a link on the site, which says something like ‘Subscribe to this Site’
- Look for the Orange RSS buttons:
![]()
- Look for Add to Reader buttons like these:

- Look in your browser address bar for the RSS logo (Note: I can only see this in the Firefox browser and not Internet Explorer)
Just click on any of the above links or buttons and follow the onscreen instructions to add the feed to your reader. Another way of subscribing is to copy and paste the website address (URL) where the feed is located into your RSS Reader.
And that’s it.
You now have a great way to keep up to date with all your favourite feeds all in one place. :- )

Thanks for the nice easy explanation, Christian! I too have a blog on my website but would never have thought to use this technology to inform visitors to our site about new entries. Good luck! xx Elaine
Hi Elaine,
It is very important to keep your visitors updated with new blog posts, otherwise they sometimes forget about your site and never come back
RSS and email updates make it easy for your visitors to stay up to date so they never forget about your website!
I recommend you register your blog with Feedburner
Love your blog by the way! Great photos!
Christian
Sound advice, but hard work! Thanks for the advice too Christian. Seems like you really know your web-stuff. I just do the arty bits!
Hi Christian
I tried to register my blog with feedburner, as you syggested but I am a bit lost as I don’t know the difference between a “feed” and my blog address! It gives me the following message which is gobbldy-gook to me!!!
The URL you entered does not appear to be a valid feed. We encountered the following problem: Unknown feed format encountered (The root element is [Element: ])
How can I add RSS to my site so anyone wanting to know when my blog has a new post can be informed?
Thanks for all your help so far!
