Images that sing from a photographer who walks quietly.
I compose stories and frame memories.
I’m father to a beautifully photogenic but photographically uncooperative daughter.
For relaxation I practice full contact vegetable growing.
Put simply I have enjoyed a lifelong compulsion for finding things out, working out the patterns that underscore our lives, and drawing together information in meaningful forms. In essence I’m a story teller and telling stories through photographs is my favourite means to engaging in this process.
I’ve taught cinematography for over a decade to honours level undergraduate and postgraduate students and continue to do so. I’ve practiced photography avidly for three decades and counting. I’ve enjoyed stints as a press photographer, and as a writer.
I keep six honest serving-men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.
That was Rudyard Kipling of course, but his words strike at the heart of what informs my practice as a photographer.
Aside from seeing my daughter grow, learn and prosper, and harvesting a good crop from my garden to nourish her with, there’s little that enthuses me more than learning and sharing and it’s my calling to do this best of all through the photographic image.
I love communicating
and I’m somewhat fond of image making.
